What's it all about?

Mill Square Railings
- desperate  for  decoration!

the Community Web’  is a community yarn bombing installation planned for Lobethal as part of the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) festival in August 2013.
What is  Yarnbombing?
Yarn bombing is 'art' made from wool and placed in a public place.  It recognises traditional domestic craft skills (knitting and crochet etc )  and showcases those skills in a public space. It is often used as a way of reclaiming and enlivening cold, sterile public spaces.

Why the Web Design?
The web symbolises connections between people in our community and our town's links to its past. The yarn art will be installed in Mill Square at the old Onkaparinga Woollen Mills.

The Woollen Mills are an integral part of the history of the town of Lobethal. Wool products, including the iconic Onkaparinga Wool Blankets were produced at the site from the 1870’s until the closure of the Mill in the mid 1990’s.
Who is involved?
The event is being organised by an Arts, Tourism and Heritage  subcommittee of the Lobethal Community Association but anyone can participate. You don't even need to live in Lobethal - you just need to be a keen crafter.   A simple crochet web pattern can be downloaded or crafters can create their own. Webs of many sizes, in a rainbow of colours are sought. Be creative - we'd love to see some original designs!
Completed webs can be delivered to So Tacki or the Lobethal Markets or sent to PO Box 196, Lobethal but must arrive by 1st August 2013 for inclusion in the installation.

When is this all happening?
Webs need to reach us by 1st August 2013.
The installation will be available for viewing from Saturday 1oth August until Sunday 19th August 2013. Why not enjoy a woolly weekend in the hills. On Saturday 10th August, call in to Lobethal to take a peek at ‘the Community Web’ and then continue on to Mt Pleasant for the SACSOS Fleece and Fibre Fair,  10am – 4pm, Soldiers Memorial Hall, Mt Pleasant.
